I recently read 1897's The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells. You'd think I would have read it before now. Anyway, a lot of people in that book had their hands/arms "akimbo." I don't remember if the Invisible Man held his arms akimbo, but then maybe you can't tell if he does that or not.
