I preferred reading the American landscape as we went along. Every bump, rise, and stretch in it mystified my longing.

I love road trips. I like driving and seeing unexpected things. I even enjoy seeing expected things sometimes - cornfields in Iowa, mountains in North Carolina, towns, cities, and silos on the horizon - depending on where you are.
Last year my summer was not filled with as many roadtrips as I had expected, but it was a journey. As I think back to that time, there are parts of the trip I don't want to take again. AND those same parts of the journey are adventures for which I am grateful.
But, seriously, a lot of those things I don't need to do again.
