So the origin of the word "bank" comes from "bench." So, I think a good thing to say to a kid who is in sports, but who doesn't get to play is that their coach is keeping them on the bench because bench comes from the word "bank" and they are so treasured they need to be kept in the bank.

By the time you tell them all that, the game will be over.
