Dalton didn't believe in spontaneous combustion, but he also didn't want the fireworks stand to get too hot because he DID believe in regular combustion.
That said, he didn't really know what combustion was or that fireworks would only explode at 867 degrees and his little window unit wouldn't do much to cool down the fireworks stand if it was 867 degrees in there.
