Each day holds a surprise. But only if we expect it can we see, hear, or feel it when it comes to us. Let's not be afraid to receive each day's surprise, whether it comes to us as sorrow or as joy. It will open a new place in our hearts, a place where we can welcome new friends and celebrate more fully our shared humanity.

If you expect a surprise, is it really a surprise? I think maybe if you seek surprises you can find them, but if you expect them you just get your expectations met. If that is your preference, then expect really great surprises because you don't want to have low expectations.
Or maybe have low expectations and hope to be surprised when they are exceeded.
