If you lose something in the sand, it may be gone forever. 

Or it may be gone until someone else finds it. After that it might have a whole new story.

Of course if you lose something in a small sand box, you probably can find it. Unless what you lose is a grain of sand. But if it's a grain of sand, you can find a replacement.

Just look out for the cat poop.
