This is true.  Birds don't often hang around if you are loud or careless.  If you just sort of stomp in and bully yourself into their space, they aren't going to stay so you can watch them.  You have to show respect and enter quietly and sit patiently.  A bird will be scared off if you aren't careful.

So, while you can't see the bird if you are loud and obnoxious, people will often give you the bird if you are loud and obnoxious.
