So James Mease wrote the first known recipe for ketchup that used tomatoes. Except he called tomatoes "love apples." So at the next cookout, ask someone to pass you the "love apple sauce" and see what happens. Either they will hand you ketchup or else it's a fun chance to educate everyone at the cookout because people at cookouts love that.
