I think that when anyone tries to share deep thoughts they come across as shallow.  When people unintentionally share deep things, then they are really deep.  I think people can share deep ideas while having serious conversations, but if they are trying to sound deep, the trying comes through which compromises the depth.

Except for Jack Handey.  His thoughts are always deep.
