Should it be "Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lie down?" Probably not. But can a bridge lay itself down? It's an inanimate object, right? So should the lyric be, "Like a bridge over troubled water bridge builder guys will lay me down?"

No. No it shouldn't be.

That would be a very different kind of song.
