Birds can't read because they don't wear reading glasses.
They don't wear reading glasses because they don't have ears to keep them on their heads.
What's really sad is when a bird pays a visit to the ophthalmologist who can't help the bird instead of the ornithologist which is where the bird meant to go but the bird can't read.
The world is cruel.
