Recently, the girls were engaged in a discussion about race relations. Maddie was talking about how Elizabeth was racist because Elizabeth thought that someone of a different race or nationality might be offended if their card didn't work at a check-out and Chris offered to pay for them. To bring home the point and try to make Maddie understand, Elizabeth said, "Maddie, how would you feel if you were in China and trying to pay for something and your card didn't work and someone from China came up to offer to buy it for you.

Maddie said, "Well, I wouldn't know what they were saying since we don't speak Chinese."

That was kind of the end of the discussion.
