Marbles

I regard golf as an expensive way of playing marbles.
~ G.K. Chesterton

We are all pretty sure that Elizabeth is an old soul back to visit earth for another trip. This is confirmed with her ridiculous memory for history and her interest in things from the past. We live not too far from a little museum / the first school in Ames - Hoggatt School - and she wanted to visit so much. We finally took her. To be honest, I'd never really noticed the signs for the school before E brought it up.

Anyway, she also loves marbles. For a while she was going to school and playing marbles with a couple of other kids. She came home with her "winnings" a few times and assured us she didn't take her nicest marbles because she didn't want to lose them.

Speaking of losing one's marbles, I was wondering where that phrase came from. I looked it up online and it has to do with the French word for furniture, art from the Parthenon Frieze, The Caine Mutiny, testicles, and The Portsmouth Times.
