I have given this quote some thought and am still not sure if I agree or not. I think what it is trying to say is that instead of focusing on ourselves, education pushes us to look outward -- at the world beyond our own experience. But, I think (or at least maybe I think I think) that it is a circular journey. We look first at ourselves, then at the world and then at ourselves with a larger perspective.
Of course, for those of us who are vampires, the goal is to have no mirrors OR windows. Unless it's nighttime. Then a window or two would be okay, I guess.
